Daniel Waterkamp is Head of the bluesign Academy and a member of bluesign’s management team, where he drives knowledge development, industry standards, and capacity building for sustainable chemical management and responsible manufacturing.

A chemical engineer and sustainability expert with a PhD in process engineering, Daniel began his career in green chemistry and micro-reactor technology before joining TÜV Rheinland in 2009, where he led chemical compliance testing for global apparel and footwear brands. He later expanded into industrial services, focusing on inspection and decarbonization initiatives.

Since 2015, Daniel has contributed to bluesign’s mission by evaluating chemical manufacturers worldwide and coaching partners on product stewardship and sustainable practices. In his current role, he leads the Academy’s efforts to connect science, industry, and implementation toward a more sustainable textile supply chain..

Barbara Oswald is the Chief Commercial Officer at bluesign, where she leads global commercial strategy and partnerships that drive responsible growth across the textile industry.

With more than 25 years of experience in textiles, Barbara brings deep technical and commercial expertise spanning the entire value chain – from production and innovation to sustainability and customer engagement. Before her current role, she led Service Product Development and Brand Services at bluesign and previously managed the Assessors team for textiles and accessories.

Barbara’s career began in the European textile machinery industry, where she developed a deep understanding of production processes and customer needs across global markets. She later advanced into commercial leadership roles in Switzerland, combining technical insight with strategic business development before joining bluesign.

Sumit has a Master’s degree in Chemical and Energy Engineering, focusing on the impacts of water pollution and energy efficiency. His scientific publications have garnered over 300 citations to date. He also has extensive experience working with leading apparel brands and textile manufacturing facilities across diverse global regions to advance sustainability programs. Since 2014, he has worked in textile sustainability, gaining first-hand experience in industry trends and initiatives.

Chu Wong is an expert in sustainability strategy and regulation. Trained as a translator and interpreter, Chu has spent the last decade working to make the fashion industry more responsible. She has campaigned for better working conditions, founded a FashionTech startup, and advised billion-euro clients on decarbonization strategies. Her expertise in stakeholder engagement, regulatory trends, and climate action helps ensure the accuracy and relevance of this article.
